Pipe band drum scores and enthusiasm for pipe band drumming shared here
About me
I have been drumming since the age of 12 in local bands in Denmark. I have also played with a group in Vancouver, Canada for 12 years (2001-2012) – The Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band Grade 2 and The Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band. Some of many highlights of this journey have been; winning the World Pipe Band Championships in grade 2 in 2006, performing and competing 13 times in the grade 1 arena at the World Pipe Band Championships, and playing in concert with The Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band. I have been drumming with Balagan off and on from 2007 to 2017. In 2019, my friend Björn Heuckeroth and I started Cross Borders Pipe Band – Björn PM and myself LD.
Apart from drumming in bands, I have taught a lot of students in Denmark and abroad – 1on1, in bands and at workshops. I have written scores for bands and soloists. See testimonials from students and drummers from bands on the services page.
In my professional life I have worked as a music teacher at a local school since finishing off my bachelor of education in 2002. My teaching career has given me a lot of experience in teaching and a solid knowledge of various teaching methods and how to improve learning.
Throughout my pipe band drumming life I’ve had so many different teachers and inspirations in bands, at workshops and at summer schools. A big thank you to all of you mentors/teachers that I’ve learned from (check below). All of you have inspired me greatly. Thank you!

There are quite a lot of videos out there, from my pipe band drumming journey. Of course there are more from the recent years due to the fact that technology and internet wasn’t widely used earlier on. I’ve added a short story to the videos. For me, it’s was a fun trip down memory lane putting together this video story – recapturing some great moments from the past. Click below to view. Enjoy!
YouTube Video Gallery 1997-2017
Heather Pipes & Drums of Copenhagen, Belgium 1997. This is video from our medley in Aldenbiesen, Belgium in 1997. Although the video&sound cuts in&out a lot, then you sort of get the idea of the style back then. I have great memories from my time in that band.
SFU PIpe Band in Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, 2003 (I believe). This video is from when I played with Simon Fraser University Pipe Band in a Japanese TV-show. We played one of my favourite tunes “Blue Cloud” written by Adam Quinn, who piped for me in solo competitions in my first year playing in Canada, 1999. A fun show to do, and great sushi backstage.
Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band, BC Games 2006. Warming up before the MSR competition. This is a rare video of the drum corp warming up to the competition. I had just arrived a few days before, as I recall, and Andre was my new leading drummer in that band. Intense, is the word. Fun times – always a great day playing in Coquitlam at the BC Games.
Winning the World Pipe Band Championships in grade 2 with RMM2 in 2006. Great video from a great trip. A fun story about this one was indeed the results – P1,P1,E11,D1 in the qualifyer, and then P1, P2, E2, D11 in the final. So winning the drumming in the qualifyer, and then getting 2nd last in drumming in the final. We played the same medley in both circles. In the end we won it on ensemble preference. We had been runner up in 2002 and 2004, so it was great to finally win it.
Triumph Street Pipe Band, Montreal Highland Games in 2007. After having won the Worlds with RMM in 2006, and being upgraded to grade 1, the band was told to not accept the upgrade by the mother organization Simon Fraser University Pipe Band. So the band refused the upgrade, and then all members left the band. Later that season the group was contacted by Triumph Street Pipe Band and asked wether they would want uniforms and all, and carry on the name. So, here we are back in grade 2, mostly the same people, same great music, different name. After winning North American Championships in grade 2, we played this great set on the day after in Montreal. One of the most enjoyable performances I have played in competition. Enjoy! After this season we were again upgraded to grade 1. This time we stayed.
Balagan Concert Band concert in Copenhagen in 2008. While drumming in Canada, I would still be drumming back in Denmark with a group of pipers and drummers from all over Scandinavia and other countries. Bernard Bouhadana, who played with FMM at the time, and I had often been playing together at parties in Denmark over the winter, whilst playing overseas in the summer time. Now, it was time to bring on some more serious concert stuff. I was drumming with some of my early drumming heroes Claus Olsen and René Frederiksen. Great times. A really enjoyable set from that evening. Enjoy!
Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band, Skagit Valley Highland Games in 2009. I really enjoy this video of our performance, playing our nr. 2 medley that year. Being the only competing band in grade 1, our PM David Hilder decided to bring on some fun, as you’ll notice underway. It’s also a great video for studying the great tenor drummers of the band. Enjoy!
Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band, Worlds Qualifyer grade 1 in 2009. This video captures the first performance of the band in grade 1 (since the earlier days of the original band). It was a great experience to finally be there. And we sounded great, I think. A great fun set to play. My best memories of that trip was from the very first competition we played on the saturday before, in North Berwick. What a fantastic day. We played very well all day I thought. That day in North Berwick is one that really sticks in my head as one the most enjoyable days I had in pipe band drumming – though not captured on any recordings, it’s forever in my head.
Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band and Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, Pipes of Peace concert at the ‘Armadillo’ in Glasgow in 2012. A great fun night filled with good music from 3 bands; the 2 mentioned above, and then City of Dunedin Pipe Band from Florida. We finished off the concert with us (DTSPB) and FMMPB playing a hornpipe set together. Fun times. Enjoy!
Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band, Worlds final 2012. This was my last performance with the band, after 12 years with the group. And what an awesome one, I thought. After having made a big slip in MSR (though inaudible on the recordings), I was very disaapointed in myself. Therefore, it was an even more awesome feeling coming into and off this medley performance with a great feeling. The opener of this medley has one of the hardest entries, I’ve ever played. That first bar in the drumming needs to be really well controlled – and we nailed it 110% here. Immidiate goosebumps and I just flew through that medley. Awesome! Enjoy!
Balagan, Worlds 2015. After having closed the chapter of my Canadian adventure, I had been playing with different bands for a couple of years, when I learned that Bernard Bouhadana and Louise O. Lindhardtsen were starting up a competition version of the Balagan concert band. I joined the band shortly after the formation, and this video is from our first year at the worlds, playing in the grade 2 final. A great fun experience to play with friends from all over Northern Europe, some which I had known for 20 years at that time. Enjoy!
Balagan, Worlds 2017. This was the last run I played with Balagan. We were fortunate to get the opportunity to play in the final, in the grade 1 arena. And, what a nice finish to this journey it was. In the circle, I was playing with pipers and drummers from all over the world, and also some that I had known since I began drumming. Amongst them, one of the pipers (a guy I stood next to in the circle), who was actually a founding member in one of the first Danish pipe bands back in 1970. Great, that this run was captured on video. A great fun trip overall.
