This weeks shared drum score was written as an intro to a medley for a band of experienced players. In this particular version they played the tune without repeats (I guess to make room for longer tunes later on in the selection). I decided to make a small change in the 2nd part to create a better overall flow – you can hear the change being played in the recording although it’s not written into the drum score sheet. There are some challenging Continue reading

Sonny Brogans Mazurka
This weeks shared drum score was written for the tune Sonny Brogans Mazurka – or maybe even a mix of that and another mazurka. It’s written from how I remember the tune played back in my childhood when I listened to my first band play this. I wrote the drum score to my memory of this tune, but always found the tune and that type of tune really interesting to drum to. Extremely exciting stuff 🙂 It’s written for Continue reading
Tommy Tullys Air
This weeks shared drum score was written for a grade 4 bands medley selection and was meant to fit the level of beginner to experienced side drummers. The drum score has the typical slow air build up with a lot of room for the pipers in the 1st part, and then adding more beats for the 2nd part. At the end I added in the bridge to the Continue reading
I See Mull
This weeks shared drum score was written back in June during the selfmade challenge I gave myself of writing a drum score every day of that month. It’s written for the 3/4 march I See Mull, which I have known since I played it back in the early nineties with a grade 4 band in Copenhagen, Denmark. Back then, we played it as the last of four 3/4 marches, and I remember being a little bit exhausted/tired/bored by the end of that set at the time. Now I actually fancy the tune – funny how things change some times. The level for this drum score was meant to be for the Continue reading
Lochanside
This drum score for Lochanside was written a few weeks back for a Danish grade 4 band. It builds on the more complicated drum score that I wrote for this tune a while back (also to be found on this site). This drum score is simplified to rolls, triplets and flams.
It seems to me that this is first non standard drum score that this specific band or drum corp has played. That’s why the level was adjusted to fit that aspect. Especially given the fact of the level being rather simple, it’s even more important to express the dynamics very clearly throughout. For example in the Continue reading
3/4 Adaptables
This drum score was put together for a Danish grade 4 band for them to play along with different 3/4 march tunes. The level of the drum corp is very diverse – some experienced drummers, some beginner drummers and some scout/marching band drummers not used to playing triplet rolls.
Therefore, this set of adaptables contains a lot of triplet rolls and regular triplets, to allow the drummers not familiar with this Continue reading
Lochanside
This drum score was written for a grade 4 drum corp and for a very nice tune – Lochanside. The idea was to make the drum score very ensemble secure. For example the first two bars are very much on the beat and in sync with the piping tune. My favourite part of the tune is the transition from line 1 to 2 in the last part, so of course I had to highlight that somehow in the drum score. I decided to make Continue reading
Home to the Kyles
This weeks drum score was written for Holbæk Pipe Band back in 2001 for their medley selection – and a recording of the band competing with this drum score can be found out there in cyberspace on youtube. It was written for a competing grade 3 band and the drum score has some technical challenges which includes the Continue reading
The Bloody Fields Of Flanders
This drum score was written in 2015 for a grade 4 band to play in a march set with one drummer playing an old military rope drum and the other snaredrummers playing regular pipe band drums. It was written for all the drummers of the drum corp to be capable of playing along, as well as for the score to be able to learn and memorize fairly quickly. The patterns in the drum score builds on Continue reading
Sunset On The Somme
This drum score was written to be played by a drummer playing an old military style rope tension drum. It was meant to be the first in a set of two marches. It was written a year ago for a beginners grade 4 drum corp. The recording below is recorded in a slow tempo to allow for beginners to drum along as well as Continue reading
Ass In The Graveyard
The score of the week this time around is for the waltz Ass In The Graveyard. The drum score was written back in 2001 as to be the ending of a grade 4 medley of a Danish band. The it was played was 1st part, 2nd part and then 1st part once more. Level wise, this drum score was written to fit any beginner drummer aswell as to be able to express Continue reading
Dream Valley
This weeks score was written 9 years ago for a Danish pipe band to play in their march selection. The level of the drum corp at the time was beginner – experienced, which is reflected in this score. There’s a few tricky, yet commonly used single runs and roll movements in there, that could be quite challenging for some. However this should be Continue reading
My Land
A new month – new theme. Drum scores for beginner drummers.
This first drum score of November was written in 2007 for a grade 4 band, as to be the last march in a march set. The tune has a lot of long notes which is also reflected in the drum score. The level of the drum score is aimed towards the experienced beginner having lots of Continue reading
