72nds Farewell to Aberdeen

A new month – a new theme. This month it’ll be 2 parted MAP marches suitable for grade 4 bands to play in competition.

This first drum score of the week of September was originally written back in 2007 for a grade 4 band to play at the Worlds when they had the first go of this MAP system. Back then, grade 4 bands only had to play 2 two parted marches in grade 4B. This drum score was written to be Continue reading

Sleepy Maggie

The last score of the week for this month is for another traditional reel Sleepy Maggie. It was made to fit into a MSR Map A set following last weeks shared drum score for The Fairy Dance. When writing this drum score, I thought of keeping it simple and with a lot of down beat to help the overall ensemble presentation. The score should be able for all drum corps to play – I think. The most difficult movement in there Continue reading

Rocking The Baby

The theme of the shared scores of the week of August will be 2 parted drum scores suitable for both grade 4b and 4a medleys. This first one was written for grade 4 band in Denmark back in 2008. It was written to fit the level of drummers who had not play other stuff than the standard marches. The challenge here was to make a score that wasn’t too difficult yet still had some stuff in there to work on. Therefore I introduced the Continue reading

Cutting Bracken

This weeks score of the week was used as an intro to a medley played back in 2001 by a grade 4 band of combined bands, pipers and drummers to compete at the Danish Championships same year. The drum score is based on a standard 2/4 march score, with variations to fit to the piping tune. Beneath the snare score, there’s a layout for a bass/tenor score that could be split/voiced out to multiple tenors. Arranging a drum score like this, would be a great way to Continue reading

Molly Connell

Continuing the theme of beginner scores comes another strathspey, that could be played following last weeks tune Mac An Irish. This score was written only 2 years ago for a grade 4 band medley. The aim for the level of the score was to allow everybody in the corps to play along, yet at the same time have a few challenges in there such as Continue reading

Mac An Irish

The score for this strathspey came about 10 years ago when a beginner student of mine wanted to explore strathspeys. I put together this score to allow a lot of focus on basic strathspey expression, which you can probably hear in the recording below. However I also wanted to leave a some technical challenges for him to work on and develop his technique. So I added into the score quite a lot of Continue reading
